We don't need a miracle
Just the funds to make it happen

Build for a Cure

McDonald Jones Homes, the Wearn Brothers Group and Austral Bricks  joined forces to Build for a Cure for childhood cancer.

A brand new, fully furnished, four-bedroom home was built from the ground up in Glenmore Park NSW during International Childhood Cancer Awareness Month (September 2014). The house was then auctioned in October 2014, with proceeds donated to Children’s Cancer Institute to fund vital medical research to save the lives of all children with cancer.

Why Our Work Matters

Many people aren’t aware that childhood cancer is different from adult cancer and requires tailored treatments. Historically, large pharmaceutical companies generally don’t focus their research on drug discoveries for childhood cancers, concentrating instead on the larger adult cancer market.

As the only independent medical research institute in Australia wholly dedicated to childhood cancer, Children’s Cancer Institute’s role is vital. Because, despite our progress, cancer still kills more Australian children than any other disease.

Kids who have to fight cancer are the bravest superheros you’d ever meet. Just like Isla who is now 5 years cancer free. Unfortunately, not all children survive to reach this milestone.

Support the Neuroblastoma Australia Run2Cure event on June 5, raising money for research so one day no child will ever have to fight childhood cancer: bit.ly/help_kids_

This little beauty is Lulu. At 8-months old she was diagnosed with a type of childhood cancer called Neuroblastoma. Lulu is now 6 years old, but like so many other kids with cancer, Lulu needs more research: This is Lulu’s story: bit.ly/Lulus_Story

Thanks to organisations like ANR, the best & brightest international minds are coming together on June 24 for the Advances in Neuroblastoma Research Parents Day to offer the latest updates in neuroblastoma research for kids like Lulu.

We can’t thank the amazing team at Humans of New York enough for shining a light on the insidious disease that is childhood cancer:

“Her tumor was the size of a grapefruit. I don’t even know how it fit in her body….She’s had several rounds of chemo, antibody therapy, a stem cell transplant, and a twelve-hour surgery. The surgery was risky… I think I’ve made all the right choices so far but the next one could be the wrong one. It’s so stressful. You know that feeling you have when you’re waiting for a call back from a job interview? That’s all the time for me. Except it’s not a job. It’s my kid’s life…”

Sheyne RowleyHugs from one oncology mumma to another. My daughter was also diagnosed with neuroblastoma at 24 months - her tumour was through her spine - in her epidural space crushing her spinal cord and right through her chest cavity wrapped around her aorta and oesophagus- and it was utterly terrifying. I know your pain and horror and terror.... My baby is now 18 months post chemo and 14 months post surgery and is stable and healthy and wonderful and while it's still scary - it's getting less scary with every stable scan result. Hold on tight. I know it's lonely in your fish bowl where life rushes in outside and you stand still and isolated but NEVER lose hope. Beat this monster! Keep trusting your decisions - and get her better, mumma! God bless you all as you weather the storm of your lifetime.2 weeks ago   ·  18
